A Portable Space galvanised flat-packed store offered the perfect solution for Amphibian and Reptile Conservation (ARC) – A Wildlife Charity who are dedicated to the conservation of these two key groups of animals and their habitats.
The Task
ARC’s Wealdenmain charity office had become condensed and cluttered with items that were no longer fit for purpose for their workshop space, making it difficult for the team to operate as effectively as required. With over 80 reserves covering more than 1500 ha (3800 acres) either owned, leased, or managed by ARC, the dedicated field teams work hard to ensure that all of the reserves stay in tip-top condition and run as efficiently as possible. So, after consultation with the sales team at Portable Space to find out which products would most suit their current storage requirements, a new 4m x 2.1m Galvanised Flat-Packed Container Store was promptly on its way to them to house essential equipment and streamline their storage.
This collapsible 4m store is light enough to be lifted and the components are small enough to fit through small passageways. Without the need for cranes, forklifts, or professional equipment and this fitted the bill for ARC. With the assistance of Portable Space’s very own and experienced delivery driver, four of the ARC team members were able to assemble the container in just two hours, without the need for specialist tools.
With the additional advantage of being able to be linked to another flat packed unit to form large open plan areas of storage space as required (side by side and end to end) and being collapsible, the Portable Space store offers flexibility at low cost and was the ideal choice for ARC on many levels.
Jack Harper, Interim Amphibian Conservation Officer at ARC, expressed his satisfaction with the new storage solution, saying, “We are very happy with the store supplied by Portable Space, it has enabled us to regain lost space within our office which had become a pseudo store. The new storage offering has facilitated the return of a more suitable working environment for the field and species teams who regularly use the office.”
This new development is a significant step towards creating a more efficient and organised workspace for the people at ARC. With the new storage solution now fully operational, the team can now focus on their core mission of conserving species and engaging more people with nature.
Who are ARC?
Amphibian and Reptile Conservation (ARC) is a UK-based wildlife charity dedicated to the conservation of two important groups of animals. By influencing others through advocacy and education the staff and volunteers at ARC have been monumental in increasing awareness.
Reptiles and amphibians are an important part of our natural history and are deeply rooted in our culture, yet they are under threat both nationally and globally. Frogs, toads, newts, lizards, snakes, and turtles all continue to decline. The habitats they use are degrading or disappearing altogether, putting these species at risk. In the coming years, many of these threats are set to increase. However, the country is also seeing a rise in environmental awareness across society and a greater focus on the many benefits of nature to communities.
ARC is well positioned with a 35 year history and are committed to addressing the challenges that amphibians and reptiles face. Their science-based expertise and practical experience of habitat management underpins their passion and commitment to providing long-term benefits for amphibians and reptiles, for other wildlife and for people.
What does ARC do?
ARC manages over 80 nature reserves, covering over 1,500 hectares across Britain with a variety of different habitats, from coastal dunes to clay pits to woodland and heathland. They work in partnership with a wide range of governmental, private, and voluntary sector organisations, and by doing so achieve greater engagement with communities where they work.
This land holding makes them one of the UK’s leading managers of lowland dry heathland. By working in close co-operation with private landowners, local authorities, and other NGOs, they are proud to protect some of Britain’s most precious habitat, saving some of the rarest native species of flora and fauna.
