Case Study: Newquay Trampoline Park

Shipping containers play central role in new trampoline & play park

Sector
Clubs, Events & Hospitality

Newquay Trampoline & Play Park has harnessed the benefits of using a range of Portable Space containers and cabins to provide essential facilities.

The Park offers an exciting selection of jumping activities for children aged 18 months to 12 years, including dive towers, crawl tubes, balance beams, a tree house and foam pits. There is also an area specially designed for babies and toddlers to explore sensory challenges and games.

Createability, the principal contractor for the Park and responsible for delivering the project for its client Greenwich Leisure (GLL), carried out a tender with several container conversion companies.

Portable Space won the contract on service and cost-effectiveness to provide high cube containers linked together to form the food preparation and servery areas; toilet blocks comprising male, female and disabled facilities as well as unisex toilet cubicles; and containers for playrooms, a briefing area and first aid room. Above the briefing room, play rooms and large toilet block, a mezzanine level viewing platform with access stairs and handrails was created.

Ian Stringer, Production Manager for Conversions at Portable Space says: “Createability had already been a principal contractor for this type of project, successfully using shipping containers to provide essential facilities.

“At Portable Space we were responsible for designing and building the interiors of the containers to meet the client specification, as well as creating the mezzanine deck level and handrails. All met the full safety requirements of building control.

“Having carried out the conversion in our on-site workshops, the installation went very smoothly and only needed a second visit to carry out the few structural changes made by the client to the overall design. The end user is very happy with the result and the park opened on-time for the summer holidays.”
